RD740

Artist Rendering RD740Dear Mr Blondia,

I wish to relate to you our satisfaction with your custom amplifier and crossover design as contained in our new model 740 active speaker system.

As you recall, our design called for both a sophisticated active crossover and dedicated amplifier module capable of driving the bass section.  (You will recall further that each bass module contains four of the exceptional Scan Speak 8545 6.5" woofers all wired in parallel, a daunting load for any amp.)

Your solution worked flawlessly and gave us performance beyond our expectations.  As noted by another Audio-X-Stream customer, the active circuitry is both "stone quiet." and as transparent and sonically innocuous as we could have expected - exactly as promised.  It appears that your topology is indeed noticeable superior to the usual op-amp active circuitry so many of us have had to endure in the past.

As far as the woofer amplifiers are concerned, I'd like you to know that we drove them at high levels for four consecutive days at HiFi 98 without any strain whatsoever.  Given the reactive, 1.8 ohm load they had to contend with, I would have expected a problem, instead, they barely broke a sweat, and delivered bass with the sort of depth and weight I've rarely heard at any price level.

All in all, our thanks for your support.  Your componentry performed beyond expectation in both cases and our hats off to you for that.  We look forward to continuing our development of proprietary Audio-X-Stream circuits.

Sincerely yours,

Jon Lane.

CXR 22

I started my adventure by swapping out the Furman Xover and replacing it with the one you had sent me. Without further testing, I fired up the system  and immediately noticed the bass extension. The new and powerful low end came off very solid without sounding contrived.  Good job with the Linkwitz mod!! Removing the passive notch filter and replacing it with your electronic equivalent is an interesting change to the midband. I like the change in character, but find it hard to characterize in words. After living with the system over night, I got out my aging (and recently tuned) CROWN RTA-2 1/3 octave analyzer and my new 'Mitey Mike II' reference microphone.  What I found was surprising. Many of the artifacts that I had seen previously at the crossover point between cones and ribbons was now gone!  I had previously attributed those artifacts to room problems, but the room hadn't changed. Clearly your xover was handling the xover point in a way that the Furman piece was not! If I could see the improvement with my crude 1/3 octave instrument, then a modern instrument would reveal much more! Good job Mr  Blondia!! Opening the case revealed your handiwork. Having done PC board design and having designed and built analog/digital circuitry in the past, I have an appreciation of quality workmanship. So believe me friend, I have credibility when I say nice job! Your design that includes multiple landings for components, straight parallel trace runs and wide grounds is premium quality work. Your power supply design is rather 'beefy'.

Also, your circuit is stone quiet.

Rudi,

I had high expectations for the crossovers. I was shocked when I set them up and played them. They are truly "amazing". I expected a gain in efficiency as you claim. It is there and then some. Had I known of your crossovers earlier, I wouldn't have needed the Cinepro 3K6 (but the extra power doesn't suck). My real surprise is how it tightened up the sound in both the woofers and the ribbons. It sounds like I took a major step into much higher-end speakers. In short I know of no other possible way to improve my system so dramatically for $650. I feel like I bought $6000 speakers.

This is the biggest bang for the buck I have purchased in my recent memory.. Well worth the wait!  If you ever need an endorsement or reference, I will be happy to tell people what I think. Truly a great product.

Regards, Jim Olson

RD75

I purchased a pair of RD-75 speakers back in Febuary/March of this year.

After months of listening and changing baffle designs, my brother and I came up with what we think is the optimum baffle for our environment.  After making the final changes, and putting everything in place, I was very impressed with the way these sound. I am using two electronically modified McIntosh amps, an old Dayton Wright pre amp, and an old electronically modified Sony CD player. We were so impressed with the way the RD-75's sounded, my brother and I gathered up a few choice cd's and headed to the local high end audio store for a comparison test. The first system we listened to couldn't even come close. We finally listened to the top of the line system they had to offer. The amps and speakers alone cost $90,000, not counting the cost of the pre amp, cd player, and cables etc. I have to tell you that the RD-75's I received from you stood up to the test. Although the very high end of the RD75's were not as crisp as the quote "top of the line system", (only using the notch filter that came with the speakers), the RD-75's performed beautifully.  Imagine how the system would sound with your active crossover and bi-amping. Now I realize that just because an amp costs $35,000 a piece doesn't mean that it is going to be the ultimate amp, but in this day and age with electronics being what it is, you would think that this "top of the line system" would sound significantly better than my old modified $2000.00 system, (including the RD-75 speakers) . I am sure the dealer could have quoted me all kinds of specs about their system, but it ultimately comes down to how does it sound.

And the RD-75's performance is outstanding! The clarity and ambiance is superb. (I could add more adjectives here, but you get the idea). My next addition will be to purchase one of your active crossovers.

I would recommend to anyone thinking about purchasing a product from Audio Extreme, go ahead, you won't be disappointed.

CXR 32

A true piece of craftmenship !  It's funny when I replaced my Rane 23 with this CXR 32 in my system, I feel it unlocked it's full potential.  It was scary how good everthing sounded.  What I seem to notice most about it is vocals.  Just seam to linger in space longer than ever.  Then stereo images seem to rip precisely back and forth and side to side like nothing I've ever heard.  Chimes and strings seem so much more in focus.  I'm lucky I found Audio-X-Stream.
