Following is an impression of what "smoothing" the frequency curves does to magnitude versus frequency chart. Following graphs show how useful this could be as a "marketing" tool.
1/12th octave smoothing of raw data.
Same curve with 1/3rd octave smoothing of raw data. Hardly recognisable.
Full octave smoothing on the same curves. A little more and we are flat ;-). (Don't start a thread on this one ;-)
